Aviation Excellence

Fire and Aviation Management in the Pacific Northwest is a cooperative effort between the Bureau of Land Management and the US Forest Service in close collaboration with the Pacific Northwest Wildfire Coordinating Group, an interagency group with representation from five federal wildland fire agencies, two state forestry agencies, and two state fire marshal associations. Forest Service and BLM jurisdiction includes lands in both Oregon and Washington and is divided across 10 BLM districts, 19 National Forests, and the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area.

We strive to be leaders in interagency cooperation. In 1995, Fire and Aviation Management became the first staff in the nation to integrate Forest Service and BLM functions into a single, co-located unit. The BLM and Forest Service have similar fire management missions and objectives, and by working cooperatively, our agencies can administer fire, fuels, and aviation programs in a manner which reduces duplication of effort, maximizes program efficiency, and capitalizes on expertise of both agencies.

Fire Prevention & Restrictions

For information on current fire restrictions and closures and wildfire prevention tips, please visit the Northwest Fire Prevention and Education website. This site represents an effort by the Federal government and the States of Oregon and Washington to create a "one-stop shopping" fire prevention information experience, and is an excellent place to check restrictions when planning your trip to the great outdoors of the Pacific Northwest.
