2002-2003

In FY 2002, competition for grants was held under the Partnerships in Character Education Program. From this competition, five state education agencies and 34 local education agencies received character education grants from the Department of Education. Below is a list of the 2002 Character Education Projects.

Note: Project descriptions for all grantees will be posed in the future. In the meantime, project descriptions for the ten grantees receiving the top standardized scores and competitive preference priority points have been linked from the list below.

1995-2001

Under the previously authorized program, Partnerships in Character Education Pilot Project Program, the Secretary could make a total of up to ten grants annually to state educational agencies (SEA) in partnership with one or more local educational agencies (LEA). Each state was limited to a total of one million dollars over a period of no more than five years. The state could retain no more than 30 percent of the funds; the remainder had to be given to the LEAs. During fiscal years 1995-2001, 45 states and the District of Columbia received character education grants from the Department of Education.
