Global Climate Change

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to assess scientific, technical and socio- economic information relevant for the understanding of climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation. It is currently finalizing its Fourth Assessment Report "Climate Change 2007." On February 1, Working Group I of the IPCC adopted the Summary for Policymakers of the first volume of “Climate Change 2007."

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
The second meeting of the Parties to Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP 2) and twelfth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 12) took place in Nairobi, Kenya, from November 6 - 17, 2006. The Conference was attended by six thousand participantes from one hundred eighty countries.

Polar Bears May Be Listed as Endangered Species: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USF&WS) has proposed a rule to list the Polar Bear as endangered under the Endangered Species Act due to loss of habitat from Arctic ice melt. See Federal Register, vol. 71, No. 27, January 9, 2007.
