Acute Health Effects: From MSDS
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW White granular powder, no odor .
May be harmful if swallowed or inhaled. A severe eye irritant.
A moderate skin irritant. Not a fire hazard.

Potential Health Effects
EYE: Severe irritant. Potential for burns and injury if not treated immediately.
SKIN CONTACT: Various severities of irritation are possible upon prolonged, repeated or occluded contact.
INGESTION: Slightly toxic. Ingestion may cause abdominal discomfort and irritation of the oral and alimentary mucosa. Ingestion may also present a potential aspiration hazard.
INHALATION : Inhalation of dusts may cause irritation to the nose, throat and lungs.
Chronic Health Effects: From MSDS
Can cause eye injury upon prolonged contact. Prolonged, repeated or occluded skin contact with concentrated product can cause irritation.
Carcinogenicity: From MSDS
None known. Sodium carbonate is not listed as a carcinogen or potential carcinogen by IARC, NTP, OSHA, OR ACGIH.
First Aid: From MSDS
EYES: Check for and remove contact lenses. Immediately flush eyes with clean flowing water, low pressure and lukewarm if possible, occasionally lifting upper and lower eyelids. Get medical attention immediately.
SKIN: Wash affected area with soap or mild detergent and large amounts of water. Seek medical attention if irritation develops.
INHALATION: Remove from area of exposure. Treat symptomatically. Seek medical attention if irritation develops or if person has difficulty breathing.
INGESTION: Do not induce vomiting. If patient is conscious and can swallow, give two glasses of water to drink. Do not attempt to give anything orally to an unconscious person. Seek medical attention.

NOTE TO PHYSICIAN: Large doses may produce systemic alkalosis and expansion in extracellular fluid volume with edema.

Handling/Disposal
Handling: From MSDS
Store in cool, dry areas and away from incompatible substances (acids).
Super Washing Soda will react with acids to yield carbon dioxide gas which can accumulate in confined spaces. Do not enter confined spaces until they have been well ventilated and carbon dioxide levels have been determined to be safe.
Disposal: From MSDS
Bury in secure landfill in accordance with all local, state and federal environmental regulations. State and local regulations may differ from federal. Be sure to consult appropriate agencies for specific rules. Empty containers may be incinerated or discarded as general trash.
