Aibonito Disaster Recovery Center Relocates For Two Days

San Juan, P.R. -- The Commonwealth/Federal Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Aibonito will relocate its disaster assistance services for two days, Wednesday, February 4th and Thursday, February 5th, 2004 to the following address:

213 San Jose Street, Hwy # 14, Aibonito
(Across from the Bonifacio Sanchez High School)
However, on Friday, January 6th, the DRC will reopen at the Marrón Aponte Coliseum (in the facilities of the Flowers Festival), located on Road 722, Km. 6.6. Representatives from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Small Business Administration, and other key disaster agencies staff this center. The DRC will continue its operations Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., until further notice.
Any individual, family, or business owner who suffered damage due to the November 10-23, 2003 rains, floods and landslides can visit the recovery center for information on disaster assistance programs, get information about mitigation techniques and to inquire about their disaster application status.
Residents can register for disaster assistance by calling FEMA's toll-free number, 1-800-621-3362, Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., (TTY: 1-800-462-7585, for hearing or speech impaired individuals). Wednesday, February 4, 2004 is the last day to register for individual and family federal disaster aid programs.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
