NIEHS Welcomes New Chief Information Officer

Heather Nicholas began work April 28 as NIEHS chief information officer (CIO), following her selection by a committee made up of staff from the Intramural and Extramural divisions, as well as a senior information technology (IT) professional from Brown University. Her appointment was announced in mid April by NIEHS Associate Director for Management Marc Hollander.
Nicholas brings ten years of IT management experience to her new position, including budget formulation and tracking, business process improvement, contract and program management, systems integration, software development and commercial software integration, and IT management and support.
Before joining NIEHS, Nicholas served as the application development manager for the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)(http://www.nichd.nih.gov/) for eight years. During the past two years, she also performed many of the CIO duties at NICHD.
Nicholas earned her Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the George Washington University School of Engineering, Washington, DC; and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Hood College, Frederick, MD.
