    First, we are often asked the following question or variations thereof- what work is everyone else around the world doing for Ecosystem-Based Fisheries Management?  Additionally, several of our colleagues have alerted us to recent and exciting developments (reports, conferences, working groups, etc.) dealing with this topic.  Thus we developed this webpage to serve as a collection (admittedly incomplete) of the germane material on this subject, attempting to capture as much of the pertinent information as possible in one place.

    What is Ecosystem-Based Fisheries Management?  Each person has a slightly different understanding of the term, “ecosystem management” or "ecosystem approach" or related "ecosystem-y" terms.  Here we are referring to fisheries management in the broader context of an ecosystem.  This term is effectively shorthand for more holistic considerations and approaches for the allocation and management of living marine resources.   More refined definitions, rationales, and discussion can be found on the webpages below.
