SEFSC 200th Anniversary Celebration
The
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), is
celebrating its 200th Anniversary. Two of
Miami’s local
NOAA offices, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) /
Southeast Fisheries Science Center (SEFSC) and the Atlantic
Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML), are hosting an
open house to celebrate NOAA’s rich local history.
We are
inviting Miami-Dade County Schools, Environmental Organizations,
Politicians, and the General Public to join us for the open house. It
is our hope that they will come and visit our Virginia Key
facilities and expand their knowledge of the marine and environmental
sciences.
The open house will be an interactive experience,
rotating throughout each laboratory for approximately 45 minutes
each. Program and project presentations, hurricane
research, partnership schools’ poster contest winners,
science
equipment, and endangered species research will all be on display.
The University of Miami Rosentiel School of Marine &
Atmospheric
Science Experimental Fish Hatchery will also be
participating.
NOAA scientists will be on-hand to describe their research projects
and answer questions.
We
are encouraging everyone to come and join in all the fun and learn
about the many areas of marine and environmental science.
Our
anniversary theme is: “NOAA: Celebrating 200 Years of
Science,
Service and Stewardship.”
