"The right equipment
with skilled operators
to do the job"

The objective of fleet management is to support Forest Service programs by providing efficient and safe fleet equipment and to ensure the economical acquisition, operation, maintenance, and disposal of that equipment.

Our fleet equipment, professional fleet management personnel, and skilled drivers and operators are vital to the Forest Service's mission.

The fleet includes a full spectrum of vehicles: sedans and station wagons; light, medium, and heavy trucks; construction equipment; boats, snowmobiles, motorcycles, and trailers; and equipment for fire fighting, law enforcement, agriculture, and other special needs. The Forest Service fleet totals more than 20,000 pieces of equipment.

The Forest Service owns approximately 85% of the fleet equipment, rents about 13% from the General Services Administration (GSA), and leases the remaining 2% from commercial vendors. The Forest Service uses the most efficient and economical means of providing equipment.
