NOAA Coastal Services Center efforts involve partnerships with state and local coastal resource management agencies. These partnerships range from direct funding of partner-originated projects to in-kind support by Center staff.

Each partnership has one or more of the following objectives:

  • Build awareness of the importance of benthic habitat
  • Support the development of baseline data on benthic habitats
  • Build capacity for developing knowledge of benthic habitat
  • Increase the use of benthic habitat information in coastal management decisions
  • Assist in moving new mapping and analysis technologies into the operational realm
  • Evaluate changes in the health and distribution of benthic habitat

Currently, the Center is partnering with other agencies on several mapping projects. For information on these activities, visit the Active Projects page.

The Center provides direct project funding through several mechanisms. Grants are used primarily to support research or new methods development. Contracts are used primarily to support data production, standards development, and remote sensing image acquisition. As these opportunities become available, this section will be updated to provide details on selection criteria, links to announcements and application forms, and contact information.
