Alexander Graham Bell and Family at Baddeck, Nova Scotia

Bell and his family spent their summers in Canada beginning in 1885. Ever the experimenter, Bell set up a laboratory there and continued to work. His investigations included a wide and varied range of subjects from sheep-breeding and hydrofoils to powered flight and kite-building. Here Bell is seen at center behind his grandson, Melville Grosvenor, helping to fly one of his tetrahedral kites. Reproduction Number LC-G9-Z3-116, 837-AB Gilbert H. Grosvenor Collection, Prints and Photographs Division, Library of Congress.
