The surveillance resources on these pages are maintained by the Office of Surveillance, NCID. The three primary functions of this office are

  • Program coordination involving the Emerging Infections Program network (EIP), the sentinel networks, and the Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) cooperative agreements;
  • Surveillance integration and informatics activities, particularly working with the CDC Health Information Systems and Surveillance Board (HISSB) integration project, including development of electronic laboratory-based reporting (ELR); and
  • Analytic activities, including public health economics, work on the burden of infectious diseases and apply analytic methods to surveillance.

Our key partners include: NCID programs; other parts of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, particularly groups coordinating and integrating surveillance activities; health departments, especially those in the EIP network and the ELC cooperative agreements; and partners outside of public health, including participants in the emerging infections sentinel networks, clinical laboratories, health informatics standards development organizations, and health care organizations.
