DART GTS Bulletin Transmitter List

NDBC distributes real-time data via the Global Telecommunications System (GTS) from deep-ocean tsunameter stations that use DART technology. While each station has an assigned World Meteorological Organization (WMO) identifier, each station has two transmitters - a primary and secondary. Designation as primary or secondary is arbitrary and does not signify a difference in the quality or transmission schedule of the water-level or tsunami event data. While the original measurements are the same for both transmitters, differences can occur because of communication errors.

The original transmitter identifiers were based on DART I data communications requirements. All NOAA tsunameters now employ DART II technology that allows for the explicit inclusion of the WMO id. NDBC chose to keep the identifier to eight characters to remain compatible with the former transmitter id field size by prepending "DD" to the WMO id indicate DART II technology and remain compatible for the initial "DD" found in the old transmitter ids and now provides the explicit appending of transmitter priority (P or S). Data from each transmitter are sent independently under separate SZxx01* identifiers, where xx indicates the geographic area.
