Tribal Council Approves Health Capital Improvement Plan

Cherokee Nation Hosting Anti-Meth Watch Events

TAHLEQUAH, OK — In a collaborative effort with the State of Oklahoma in an initiative to combat the use of meth in our communities, the Cherokee Nation will be hosting several watch parties for the showing of a thirty-minute historic documentary on how community members can work together to fight back against the use of meth and other drugs.

The Legislative Branch consists of the 15-member Tribal Council elected to represent nine districts of the Cherokee Nation. The Tribal Council initiates legislation and conducts other business which will further the interests of the Cherokee Nation and its membership. The other business which will further the interests of the Cherokee Nation and its membership. The Deputy Chief presides over the Council as its president. Tribal Council terms are four years.

1998: In January the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers transfers 1,100 acres of land along the Arkansas River west of Sallisaw to the Cherokee Nation. Cherokee leaders begin plans for an industrial park cn the land.
