Information about the formation of an N-Number is available. You can check the availability of N-Numbers on the Aircraft Registration Inquiry website. You can also request reservation of an N-Number online.

To request a reservation of an N-Number in writing you must:

  • choose at least five N-Numbers, listed in order of preference
  • include your:
    • name
    • mailing address
    • phone number
    • signature
    • title of the requester (if appropriate)
  • provide a $10 (U.S. funds) check or money order payable to the Federal Aviation Administration

Note: If a desired N-Number is in a hold or reserved status and shows an approaching purge date, the number, if not renewed by the holder, will become available at 12:00 a.m. Central time (by the server time shown on the web page) the day following the purge date. Requests for the number may then be filed through the on-line request web page, in our Public Document Rooms at 7:30 a.m., by U.S. Mail, or overnight courier service.
