» More Information on West Virginia Severe Storms, Flooding, and Landslides
CHARLESTON, W. Va. -- State and federal officials announce the opening of five more Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs). They are located in Greenbrier, Kanawha, Marion, Mercer and Summers counties. The centers will assist residents who suffered losses and damages from the storms, flooding and landslides that began on November 11, 2003. Beginning Friday, December 1, the DRCs will be open seven days a week. The hours and locations are listed below.
Individuals should first call the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) toll-free teleregistration number 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) to apply for assistance. People with hearing or speech impairments may call (TTY) 1-800-462-7585.
“Applying for assistance by calling the FEMA teleregistration number is the first step to receiving help through federal and state programs,” said State Coordinating Officer Stephen S. Kappa. “We encourage everyone who suffered damages and losses to call.”
Representatives from FEMA, the State of West Virginia and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will provide information on disaster recovery programs. Additionally, the SBA will be available to help those affected fill out applications for low-interest loans for homeowners, renters and businesses.
