FVS Variants

There are 20 different FVS variants. Each is calibrated to a specific geographic area of the United States. Various extensions are available for some of the variants. These extensions provide the ability to estimate the influence of other agents upon tree growth (such as insects, disease, and fire), extend FVS modeling capabilities, and permit multiple stand simulation. The FVS Staff of the Forest Management Service Center develops additional variants to expand and improve FVS coverage of the nation, as well as continually improve existing variants.
