FVS TrainingThe FVS Staff of the Forest Management Service Center offers FVS training sessions, sponsors workshops and conferences, and provides self-tutorials. These offerings range from basic to advanced vegetation simulation topics. Training SessionsWe annually offer training sessions. We schedule these courses during the months of October through April, offered throughout the United States. Please see the list below to find a course near you and follow the registration link to sign up (when registration is available). FVS training sessions are about a week and are designed for silviculturists, fire and fuels specialists, fire ecologists, wildlife biologists, forest managers, and other decision-makers dealing with forest management. The week long course covers the principles of the Forest Vegetation Simulator, the Fire and Fuels Extension (FFE), insect and disease, the Suppose interface, and the Stand Visualization System (SVS). Prior to taking the course, there is 4 to 8 hours of pre-work (see self-tutorials) that need to be accomplished. The Society of American Foresters (SAF) has assigned 34.0 hours of continuing education credits for the week-long course and pre-work.
RegistrationYou may register online for the FVS Training Sessions listed in the table above. NOTE: If you recently attempted to register (November 16 to November 30, 2008) and did not get a confirmation email, it may mean that we did not receive your registration. Our registration system was not working during this period. Please contact our Training Coordinator or return to this web page and register again if you think this applies to you.
