Disaster Recovery Center Opens At South Post Oak Baptist Church

Houston, TX -- A Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will open Monday, June 18, at South Post Oak Baptist Church to serve the needs of people affected by Tropical Storm Allison and the severe flooding in Southeast Texas, state and federal disaster officials said.

The new center location, along with dates and hours of operation are as follows:

8 a.m.-6 p.m.

Currently there are seven other Disaster Recovery Centers open: three in the Houston area and others in Deer Park, Jacinto City, and Friendswood. The hours of operation are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., 7 days a week.

People affected by the storms and floods who have applied for disaster assistance by calling the toll-free application number - 1-800-462-9029 (1-800-462-7585 for hearing- and speech-impaired persons) - may visit any of the Disaster Recovery Centers.

The DRCs will have telephone banks, which people may use to register for assistance.

At the DRCs, people will be able to talk face-to-face with representatives of local, state and federal agencies, as well as voluntary agencies. Representatives of the U. S. Small Business Administration will help people with loan applications. Information on the status of their claims, answers to questions about assistance programs, and information on which voluntary agencies may offer additional assistance will also be available.

FEMA's Mitigation Specialists will also be at DRCs to explain ways for people to minimize future losses.
