eSubmission News and Updates
NIH eSubmission Items of Interest for AORs & SOs— November 30, 2006
Grants administrators,
We will transition to electronic R01 applications using the new SF424 (R&R)
form set for the February 5, 2007 receipt date and beyond. Please make sure
your institution is registered at both Grants.gov
and eRA Commons.
We have started a communication campaign to ensure all potential applicants
are aware of these important changes. The November
issue of the NIH
Extramural Nexus was devoted to this topic. We hope you take advantage
of the training and outreach
resources on the Electronic Submission of Grant Applications
website to help us spread the word. If you are new to the process, join us
for our webcast December
5, 2006 training event. We are always open to any suggestions you have
for improving the available materials (NIHElectronicSubmiss@mail.nih.gov).
We would like you to be aware that we have just distributed the following
email to a large distribution of principal investigators as part of our communications
campaign.

Subject: New Forms and Process for NIH R01 Grant Application Submissions for Feb. 2007 Receipt Dates and Beyond!
BIG CHANGES FOR R01 APPLICANTS
For the new February 5, 2007 receipt date and beyond…
- NIH will require electronic application submission for
all R01 applications – NO MORE PAPER!
- Submission involves a new application form. The new SF424 (R&R) form
set contains the same information, but has a very different look and feel.
Try it out before it’s time to submit.
- Prepare yourself now! See Tips
for Investigators (PDF - 56 KB) to learn how.
- The new process changes the approval and submission procedures within
your institution. Work with your central grants office to learn how your
institution is handling the changes.
- NIH continues to welcome unsolicited, investigator-initiated applications;
use the R01 Parent Announcement listed at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/parent_announcements.htm.
- Take advantage of the December
5, 2006 training event. Check out the other training resources available
at http://era.nih.gov/ElectronicReceipt/training.htm.
- Learn about available options for Macintosh users at http://era.nih.gov/ElectronicReceipt/files/mac_options.htm.
- Take advantage of the eRA Commons Web
support ticket system for quicker service when seeking help.
- Subscribe to NIH Electronic Submission listservs to stay informed.
