North Coast Railroad, South End Alterate Project, Lombard to Willits, California
The North Coast Railroad Authority has requested funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency through the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services for repairs and modifications to the southern portion of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad. The study area for this project extends from Willits in Mendocino County south to Lombard in Napa County and constitutes NCRA’s Russian River Division. The NWP, including the South End portion, is not currently operational. NCRA has identified a series of actions that would restore the railroad infrastructure and, in conjunction with other actions to be taken by NCRA, contribute to the eventual restoration of independent freight operations along the South End of the railroad corridor.
