Career Development Program

The Career Development program is intended to attract, develop and retain talented researchers working in areas of particular importance to improving the health and care of our nation's veterans. Biomedical Laboratory and Clinical Science R&D Services has a rich history of supporting investigators during their early research careers who have gone on to serve as long-standing, independently funded VA scientists, Center and REAP Directors, and research administrators such as ACOS/R, etc. The current Career Development program provides opportunities for clinician and non-clinician biomedical and clinical researchers, including biostatisticians and clinical trialists. The program guidance, policies, and eligibility information are available at http://www.research.va.gov/funding/cdp.cfm

This page provides information and announcements specific to BL/CS R&D applicants and awardees and will be updated.

Updated Notes for BL/CS R&D

  • Starting your CADE Award (110 KB, Word)
  • Mentored Research Training Award Progress Guidelines (48 KB, MS Word)
  • The CDA1 award is a mechanism to provide salary support for very junior investigators, who propose research on their mentor’s funded programs. No research support is provided, but the Letter of Intent and the Application should clearly describe the strong research integration between the applicant and the mentor/s. BL/CS R&D currently is only supporting applications in program priority areas (such as genomics, mental health, deployment health, clinical research). We encourage any applicant considering the CDA1 to contact our office regarding the research plan to determine whether there would be a sufficient enthusiasm prior to submitting an LOI.
