Washington DC--The National Gallery of Art is conducting a search for works on paper by the American artist Mark Rothko (1903-1970) for inclusion in Mark Rothko: The Works on Paper. This multi-volume catalogue raisonné will include more than 2500 drawings and paintings on paper in graphite, crayon, ink, watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and oil, often used in combination. The catalogue, scheduled for publication in 2010, is being written by Ruth E. Fine, Curator of Special Projects in Modern Art, National Gallery of Art, with assistance from Laili Nasr.

"The works on paper volumes will document the range of Rothko's creative achievements, revealing a wealth of highly significant drawings and paintings on paper largely unknown to both specialists and the public," said Earl A. Powell III, director, National Gallery of Art. "We are grateful to the artist's heirs, Kate Rothko Prizel and Christopher Rothko, for their ongoing support as we move forward with this historic project."
