ESTABLISHMENT OF
THE SOUTHERN OREGON
VITICULTURAL AREA
Washington, D.C.
- The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) published a final
rule in the Federal Register on December 8, 2004 establishing the Southern
Oregon viticultural area in portions of Douglas, Jackson, and Josephine
Counties in southwestern Oregon. The established Applegate Valley, Rogue
Valley, and Umpqua Valley viticultural areas are within the boundaries
of the Southern Oregon viticultural area. TTB designates viticultural
areas to allow vintners to better describe the origin of their wines
and to allow consumers to better identify wines they may purchase.
This final rule
is effective in 60-days, February 7, 2005.
