Proposals to Establish Horse Heaven Hills
and High Valley Viticultural Areas, and Realign the Santa Lucia Highlands and Arroyo Seco Viticultural Area

Washington, D.C. - The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) issued three notices of proposed rulemaking in the Federal Register proposing to establish two viticultural areas and realign two established areas. The proposed Horse Heaven Hills viticultural area in south-central Washington State lies entirely within the established Columbia Valley viticultural area. The proposed High Valley viticultural area is located about 85 miles north of San Francisco and largely within the established Clear Lake and North Coast viticultural areas. The proposed realignment of the Santa Lucia Highlands and Arroyo Seco viticultural areas would realign the common boundary line between these two established viticultural areas located in Monterey County, California. TTB designates viticultural areas to allow vintners to better describe the origin of their wines and to allow consumers to better identify wines they may purchase.
