The Mammoth Basin Nordic Backcountry Patrol is a non-profit organization that helps provide a safe, quality experience to the wintering public in and around Mammoth Lakes California. As members of the National Ski Patrol, we take great pride in our commitment to public service and we place strong emphasis on safety awareness, as well as encouraging responsible environment usage. Our Patrollers are able to provide on-the-spot medical skills to those injured, lost or suffering from the winter environment. Whitney Trail Maintenance - June 22 - 28, 2008The Mount Whitney Trail is a maintained route to the highest point in lower 48 states. The trail ascends the steep, narrow Lone Pine Creek drainage, and is framed by the granite peaks of the John Muir Wilderness. The trail to the summit, with expansive views over the Sierra and the Great Basin, provides a unique recreation opportunity. Base camp will be near Bighorn Park, at an elevation 10,500 feet. Primary work area will be near Mirror Lake, at elevations around 10,800 feet. For more information and to sign up, contact the American Hiking Society. Cottonwood Lakes Basin Restoration and Maintenance - July 27 – August 2, 2008Cottonwood Lakes Basin is nestled in the southern-most portion of the John Muir Wilderness. Mt. Langley dominates the northern skyline. At elevations around 11,000 feet, the Basin features numerous lakes, meadows, and forests of foxtail pine.
