Woodcutting Season In The Eldorado National Forest Ends December 31

Eldorado National Forest 2008 woodcutting permits will expire December 31. The Forest Service says 2009 woodcutting permits can be purchased at all ENF Ranger Stations beginning April 1, when the woodcutting season starts up again.(12/08)

Annual Seasonal Closure of Eldorado National Forest Dirt Roads and Trails Begins January 1
It’s time for winter visitors to the Eldorado National Forest to begin thinking about the annual closing of dirt roads and trails that begins on January 1 and extends through March 31. (12/08)

Prescribed Burn In Progress On the Eldorado
The Eldorado National Forest is planning to continue with the Cat Anderson Prescribed Burn north of Highway 88 this week in the Middle Fork of the Cosumnes River area. Approximately 300 acres are scheduled to be control burned on Wednesday and another 200 acres on Thursday. (11/08)

Community Meeting for Upcoming Prescribed Burn
The Eldorado National Forest is planning a community meeting for interested public and residents who would like to learn more about the Henry's Prescribed Burn Project which will be implemented in 2009. The community meeting is scheduled for Saturday, November 15 at the Grizzly Flat Community Church, 5061 Sciaroni Road, Grizzly Flat CA 95636 at 10:00 a.m. (11/08)

Prescribed Burn In Progress On the Eldorado
The Cat Anderson Prescribed Burn north of Highway 88 is in progress this week. As of Thursday morning four hundred acres have been treated under controlled conditions. We have the project fully staffed, and the burn is progressing well and is within it's containment lines. No additional ignitions are planned for today.... (10/08)

Prescribed Burns Planned In Eldorado National Forest
USDA Forest Service fire personnel intend to continue this year’s “prescribed burning” activities in the Eldorado National Forest during the fall and winter months. Approximately 9,000 acres of national forest lands are scheduled to be prescribed burned, in both pile and understory fire application. Pile burning begins after the rains have thoroughly dampened the forest floor and will continue throughout the winter months. (10/08)

Eldorado National Forest Fire Restrictions Removed Tonight
Eldorado National Forest fire restrictions will be removed at midnight on Monday, October 6, 2008. Visitors will once again be able to use wood, charcoal, or gas fires or stoves outside of developed campgrounds as long as they possess a valid California Campfire Permit and follow the permit regulations. Rifle season for deer hunting opens this weekend in the Eldorado National Forest and there are a few safety items the Forest Service wants hunters to keep in mind.(09/08)

Eldorado National Forest Fire Danger is Critical
Labor Day visitors will determine if the Eldorado National Forest makes it through the weekend without a wildfire. The fire danger in the Eldorado National Forest is critically high says Bob Patton, Eldorado National Forest Fire Chief. (08/08)

Eldorado National Forest Proposes Recreation Fee Increases For 2009
Recreation managers at the Eldorado National Forest are interested in hearing your comments on a proposal to increase fees at the Dru Barner Campground, located east of the town of Georgetown. The campground fees have not been raised since the Recreation Enhancement Act was signed into law in 2004. These fee increases would be consistent with inflationary costs and are comparable to similar public and private sites in the area. The proposed fee increases will change the overnight camping fee from $8.00 per vehicle to $12.00 per site, and the day use fee will change from $3.00 per vehicle to $5.00 per site. (07/08)

Fourth Of July Expected To Be Busy In Eldorado National Forest
The Eldorado National Forest is preparing for one of the biggest recreation weekends of the year. The dry forest conditions has officials concerned with the upcoming Fourth of July weekend and the influx of visitors. (07/08)

Eldorado National Forest Fire Restrictions Begin July 1
Special fire restrictions will be implemented in the Eldorado National Forest beginning July 1, about a month earlier than normal. Eldorado National Forest Supervisor Ramiro Villalvazo will be signing a Forest Order that restricts campfires and charcoal barbeques only to designated developed campgrounds and facilities on the Eldorado that have a campground host and a water system until the end of fire season.(06/08)

Recreation Season Heats Up On The Eldorado
Most campgrounds and picnic areas in the Eldorado National Forest will be open for Memorial Day Weekend. Wrights Lake, Loon Lake, Gerle Creek, Woods Lake, and Kirkwood Lake campgrounds remain closed due to snow and wet conditions until June. (05/08)

Training Fires In The Grizzly Flats Area
Training fires will be ignited May 16 on the grounds of the US Forest Service Fire Station in Grizzly Flats. Throughout the day fire fighters will practice wildland fire fighting techniques. The training fires will be ignited in low growing bear clover which is very flammable. The fires will be started between 9 AM and 4 PM. (05/08)

Celebrate The 19th Annual Georgetown Kids Fishing Derby
Children 12 years old and younger are invited to come out to Lake Walton with their fishing poles, tackle boxes and bait and take part in the 19th Annual Georgetown Kids Fishing Derby from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 7, 2008. (05/08)

Little Leaguers Looking To Hit a Home Run In Fire Prevention
The Eldorado National Forest and the Snowline Little League have teamed up to sponsor “Fire Prevention Day” at the Craig Escobar field on Forebay road in Pollock Pines. On Saturday April 26th from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., everyone is welcome to stop by and meet Smokey Bear, learn about Defensible Space, snack, and watch the kids play some great baseball! (04/08)

Eldorado National Forest Motorized Routes Designated
Today, Forest Supervisor Ramiro Villalvazo signed his decision designating a total of 1,847 miles of roads and trails open for motorized public use in the Eldorado National Forest. The decision follows two and one half years of environmental analysis and public involvement. (03/08)

U.S. Forest Service Open Houses to Feature Travel Management Decision
The U.S. Forest Service will officially release a Final Environmental Impact Statement and a Record of Decision designating a system of motorized travel routes in the Eldorado National Forest on April 2, 2008. Detailed information about the project is posted on the internet at: www.fs.fed.us/r5/eldorado. Four public open houses will be held to display and explain key features of the decision. The first open house will be held in Placerville on April 5 at the El Dorado County
Fairgrounds between 9 AM – 3 PM. (03/08)
