NCCAM has launched Time to Talk, an educational campaign to encourage patients-particularly those age 50 or older-and their health care providers to openly discuss the use of complementary and alternative medicine. Free educational materials and tools are available.

According to authors of a new NCCAM-funded study, St. John's wort does not appear to have an impact on the symptoms of ADHD in children and adolescents.

Notice of Intent To Issue FOA: Competing Renewal of NIH Botanical Research Centers Program <http://nccam.nih.gov/news/2008/061708.htm> 


NCCAM and the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements intend to issue a Funding Opportunity Announcement for the Botanical Research Centers Program by December 2008. It is anticipated that grant applications from both new applicants and current BRC grantees seeking renewal will be due in July 2009.

Grant Notice: Delays in Application Submission due to Floods - June 2008 <http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-08-080.html> 

The NIH realizes that there will be problems for organizations across a wide geographic area in submitting grant applications due to the major floods.  The usual NIH practice for such circumstances will apply.  Electronic and paper applications that are submitted late because of the floods should include a cover letter noting the reasons for the delay.  It is not necessary to get permission in advance for flood-related delays in grant application submissions. It is expected that the delay will generally not exceed the time period that an applicant organization/institution is closed.

The NIH Toolbox initiative seeks to assemble brief, comprehensive assessment tools that will be useful to clinicians and researchers in a variety of settings, with a particular emphasis on measuring outcomes in longitudinal epidemiologic studies and prevention or intervention trials across the lifespan.
