On-Line Patient Education Learning Center now available on My Healthevet

To kick off our new patient education Learning Center on My HealtheVet, we have added three on-line courses.

  • MANAGING YOUR TRIGGERS
  • SUCCEED AT WORK
  • MANAGE YOUR STRESS

To locate these free on-line courses, go to the RESEARCH HEALTH tab, then to the MENTAL HEALTH tab and click on My HealtheVet Learning Center.
Please note that the information found in these courses is not meant to diagnose or treat any condition OR take the place of professional medical advice. Please talk to your doctor about any health-related conditions, concerns, or questions you may have.

Here is a brief description of the courses now available...

Manage Your Triggers: Many people face shocking and traumatic events in their lifetime. After a painful experience, people will often experience reminders, or "triggers," of the event and have post-traumatic stress reactions. These lessons can help you learn how to manage and disconnect trauma triggers.

Succeed at Work: Difficulty at work may be caused by a number of things such as post-traumatic stress, substance abuse, depression, release from deployment, or other issues. Problems can range from trouble concentrating to more serious issues such as poor attendance, low productivity, or angry outbursts that may lead to job loss. This course can help you learn how to identify work-related problems, respond appropriately to situations, handle conflict, and manage your anger and stress.

Manage Your Stress: Anything that causes stress, such as a personal threat, or an event that seems beyond your ability to manage, is called a "stressor." Stressors can be minor hassles or serious life challenges. The goal of this course is to help you to learn to relax your body and use some exercises to relax. After completing this course, you will likely be able to tell the difference between normal and post-traumatic stress, recognize signs of stress, identify your stressors, and practice relaxation techniques to reduce your stress level.

All courses contain fact sheets, activities, and worksheets that can be used offline.

Attention Veterans who have a Legal Guardian or Power of Attorney: Our Veterans Asked, We Listened....

Legal Guardians (LG) and/or people granted Power of Attorney (POA) for a veteran can now complete the In-Person Authentication (IPA) process for the VA patient.

The person who is the veteran's appointed legal guardian or who has been granted Power of Attorney will follow the same process for In-Person Authentication as our VA patients do. They need to:

  1. Ensure the veteran is registered as a VA patient in My HealtheVet,
  2. Watch the on-line MHV Orientation Video,
  3. Present to a VA facility with:
    • VA Form, 10-5345a-MHV signed on behalf of the veteran
    • A government issued photo ID for themselves and the veteran
    • A written, signed (by the veteran), dated and notarized Power of Attorney that specifically grants the right to request health records for the veteran, or the court appointment for Legal Guardianship that specifically grants guardianship to the person completing IPA for the veteran

Once this process is completed, the VA patient's legal guardian/Power of Attorney will be able to access and use My HealtheVet on their behalf.
