OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Maryland citizens who suffered damage from Hurricane Floyd and the floods that followed have only two weeks to register for disaster assistance. Nov. 22, is the last day to file applications for disaster-assistance programs, federal and state disaster recovery officials said.
Homeowners, renters and business owners who sustained storm and flooding damage, Sept. 16 to 20, should register by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) toll-free registration number 1-800-462-9029 (TTY 1-800-462-7585). The telephone numbers are operational every day 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Applicants may qualify for assistance under several federal and state programs including disaster housing, grants to meet disaster-related needs, and U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loans.
Applicants can get answers to questions about the assistance process or the status of their applications by calling the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-525-0321 (TTY 1-800-462-7585). Helpline representatives are available every day 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
