CHARLESTON, W. Va. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency's teleregistration operation will be shortened beginning this weekend.

FEMA's telephone registration system will now operate Monday through Saturday, 8 A.M. to 6 P.M. Both the registration and the agency's Helpline will be closed Sundays.

"Because of the early success of the teleregistration process, the need for Sunday registration has declined. Anyone who suffered damages due to the Feb. 18 severe storms, landslides and flash flooding can still apply Monday through Saturday, 8 A.M. to 6 P.M," according to FEMA's federal coordinating officer, Justo Hernandez.

The teleregistration toll-free number is 1-800-462-9029. Those with hearing or speech impairments should dial (TTY) 1-800-462-7585.

At the close of business Monday, March 27, a total of 1163 registrations for storm-related disaster aid had been received from individuals in 25 West Virginia counties eligible for individual assistance.
