NATIONAL SEAFOOD
INSPECTION LABORATORY
The National Seafood Inspection Laboratory was established as the Regional
Pascagoula Technology Station in 1957 and was reorganized in 1974 to
scientifically support the Department of Commerce National Seafood Inspection
Program. As a result of an Agency reorganization in 1996, NSIL adapted its food
safety risk analysis expertise to support specific fishery management and data
collection programs of the Office of Sustainable Fisheries in the Headquarters
Division of the National Marine Fisheries Service.
NSIL supplies information and data pertaining to seafood and aquatic animal health to:
- DOC/NOAA/NMFS/OSF
- Other Federal Agencies
- State Agencies
- Academia
- Industry
- Media
- Consumers
- Other Stakeholders
