VA National Hepatitis C Program

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is among the leading national institutions in hepatitis C care. VA is the largest single provider of medical care to people with hepatitis C in the United States. The VA National Hepatitis C Program works to ensure that patients with or at risk for hepatitis C receive the highest quality health care services. Led by the VA's Public Health Strategic Health Care Group (PHSHG) and carried out by VA medical facilities across the country, the program takes a comprehensive approach to hepatitis C that includes:

bulletUniversal screening for risk of hepatitis C infection
bulletEffective testing and counseling for those at risk
bulletEducation for patients and their families
bulletGiving providers access to the best available information about hepatitis C
bulletExcellence in clinical care
bulletProactive research to improve clinical care
bulletData-based quality improvement

We put veterans first. VA's response to hepatitis C reflects the Department's highest ideal--to meet the needs of those who have served their country so nobly.
