STOP: Communications Manager Positions

Summary

Effective program communications and social mobilization are important components of the polio eradication initiative. In September 2006, the STOP Program sent its first team members into the field to work specifically in communications. STOP is coordinating with both UNICEF and WHO in the recruitment, training, and placement of these team members. While in their countries of assignment, they may:

  • help develop and implement national and sub-national polio communications plans;
  • develop appropriate messages and materials for the public, health care providers, vaccinators, and the media;
  • serve on committees to ensure effective coordination among various communications partners; and
  • help plan, monitor, and evaluate national immunization days for polio vaccination, particularly the communications activities for these campaigns.
