Academic Year of Most Recent Degree

This 4-digit code is based on M_ED_MR_DEGREE_AWARD_MO and M_ED_MR_DEGREE_AWARD_YR. The academic year runs July through June:

if
M_ED_MR_DEGREE_AWARD_MO = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 99 (January through June, or Missing)
then
M_ED_MR_DEGREE_AWARD_ACADEMIC_YR = M_ED_MR_DEGREE_AWARD_YR

if
M_ED_MR_DEGREE_AWARD_MO = 7,8,9,10,11 or 12 (July through December)
then
M_ED_MR_DEGREE_AWARD_ACADEMIC_YR = M_ED_MR_DEGREE_AWARD_YR + 1

Year of Most Recent Degree (3-year intervals)

This 4-digit code is based on M_ED_MR_DEGREE_AWARD_YR. A 3-year range is calculated for M_ED_MR_DEGREE_AWARD_YR with M_ED_MR_DEGREE_AWARD_YR_3_YR_GROUPING containing the first year in the range. (For instance, the value 1974 would be stored for graduates of 1974, 1975 and 1976.)

For the 2001 NSRCG, all values of M_ED_MR_DEGREE_AWARD_YR of 1999 or earlier are set to M_ED_MR_DEGREE_AWARD_YR_5_YR_GROUPING_PUB = 1995 and labeled "Prior to 2000".

For reasons for obtaining most recent degree, preparing for further education and expected by employer are lumped with 'other'. The following variables were combined to derive a 1-digit code:

Reason for obtaining most recent degree: Required/expected by employer (M_ED_MR_DEGREE_REAS_EMPR_REQ), and
Reason for obtaining most recent degree: Other (M_ED_MR_DEGREE_REAS_OTHR).
