VA Awards $401,000 to Wisconsin State Home

December 15, 2004

WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded a grant of $401,000 to the state of Wisconsin to upgrade the emergency call system at the State Veterans Home in King.

"By partnering with the states, VA is honoring the nation's commitment to care for our older veterans," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi.  "Our goal is to provide a comfortable environment for these veterans in a time of need."

The grant will pay up to 65 percent of the cost to upgrade the system that allows patients to alert staff about medical emergencies.  This system will operate in all four nursing home buildings and outlying facilities on the grounds.  The overall cost of the project is approximately $617,471.

The home offers comprehensive medical services, including emergency and acute care.  The state veterans' home was established in 1887 by Union veterans of the Civil War.

Information about the King Veterans Home can be found on the Internet at http://dva.state.wi.us/Homes_king.asp or by calling (715) 258-5586.
