VA Grant Awards $915,000 to Nebraska State Veterans Home

June 12, 2003

WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded a grant for more than $915,000 to Nebraska for construction of a multipurpose building at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff.

"This grant reflects the federal-state partnership that is honoring our commitment to care for the men and women who have served in uniform," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi.  "These partnerships allow more veterans to receive the respect and care that they have earned."

The grant will pay up to 65 percent of the cost to construct a new multipurpose building for veterans.  The building will include room for social activities as well as medical needs, such as physical and occupational therapy.  The overall cost of the project is approximately $1.4 million.

The veterans’ home in Scottsbluff is a 140-bed facility that provides medical, dental, nursing and Alzheimer’s care to eligible Nebraska veterans.  It opened in March 1975 to serve both male and female Nebraska wartime veterans and their dependents.

Information about the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff can be obtained by calling 308-632-0300.
