WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has awarded a grant for more than $31.1 million to Washington State for construction of a replacement nursing home facility at the Washington Veterans Home in Retsil.
"This grant reflects the federal-state partnership that is honoring our commitment to care for the men and women who have served in uniform," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi. "This partnership provides a comfortable home for veterans in a time of great personal need."
The grant will pay up to 65 percent of the cost to construct a replacement nursing home for veterans. The overall cost of the project is approximately $47.8 million.
The new veterans home in Retsil will be a 240-bed facility that will provide skilled nursing care to eligible Washington veterans.
The Retsil nursing home opened its doors in 1910. Information about the facility can be found on the web at http://www.dva.wa.gov/Veteran%20Homes.htm or by calling 360-895-4700.
