VA Grant Awarded to New Mexico Veterans Home

June 28, 2002

WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded a grant for $270,595 to New Mexico to expand the dining room at the New Mexico State Veterans' Home, a nursing home in Truth or Consequences, N.M.

"This grant reflects the federal-state partnership that is honoring our commitment to care for the men and women who have served in uniform," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi.  "These partnerships allow more veterans to receive the respect and care that they have earned."

The grant will pay up to 65 percent of the cost to build and equip the dining room addition.  The overall cost of the project is more than $416,000.

The New Mexico State Veterans' Home is a 161-bed long-term-care facility offering medical, nursing, rehabilitative, social and other supportive services to eligible New Mexico veterans and parents and spouses of service members who died on active duty.  It was established in 1985.

Information about the veterans home can be found on the Internet at http://www.zianet.com/nmsvh or by calling (505) 894-4200.
