Two VA Educational Products Receive National Award

March 21, 2002

WASHINGTON -- The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) was honored recently in the national Telly award competition for an in-house video production and an educational satellite broadcast.   These products of the Veterans Health Administration's Employee Education System received bronze statuettes and certificates as finalists.

"VA's Employee Education System just gets better and better at delivering knowledge and skills to our employees," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi.  "Receiving recognition for effective, high-quality products from outside the VA system is gratifying."

The national Telly award competition was established 23 years ago to showcase outstanding non-network, cable TV, film and video productions.  Some video and film winners last year included productions from Sony Pictures, Walt Disney Studios, Universal Studios, History Channel, Johns Hopkins Medical, Kodak, Microsoft and Nike.

The video, "VCS: Proud to Serve Genuine American Heroes," placed second in the motivational category.  The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) began the project to inform co-workers and customers about the VCS mission and purpose.  Production was done at the St. Louis Employee Education Resource Center.

The satellite broadcast, "Beyond the Silence: Cochlear Implants for Veterans," placed second in the employee communications and education categories, resulting in two bronze statuettes. The instructional broadcast was created for the employees of VA's Audiology Service.
