WASHINGTON – Veterans in the Cleveland, Ohio, area are another step closer to having a new state-of-the-art health care facility as the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) awarded a $10.3 million contract to begin preparations for a new bed tower.
“VA remains committed to continuing world-class health care for Cleveland veterans,” said the Honorable R. James Nicholson, Secretary of Veterans Affairs. “This decision represents another important step toward enhancing access to health care for Ohio veterans.”
The contract was awarded to LDV, Inc. of Cleveland, to begin infrastructure improvements necessary for construction of a new bed tower, where veterans will receive care for spinal cord injuries and blind rehabilitation, plus a psychiatric nursing home and dementia care. The work is scheduled to be finished by the summer of 2008.
The infrastructure improvements covered by the contract include the relocation of emergency generators, relocating cooling towers, rerouting electrical feeds to the hospital and providing utility feeds to the new bed tower.
Last year in Ohio, VA allocated more than $2.8 billion to provide health care and financial benefits to the state’s 1 million veterans. The Department operates five major hospitals in Ohio, 27 outpatient clinics, four nursing homes and five Vet Centers.
