Wilson Appointed Director of VA’s Education Service

March 20, 2006

WASHINGTON – Keith Wilson, a native of Orlando, Fla., was recently appointed the director of the Education Service for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

“Mr. Wilson has extensive experience in managing VA benefit programs and is committed to our mission,” said Adm. Daniel L. Cooper, VA’s Under Secretary for Benefits.  “Veterans will benefit greatly from his experience and leadership of the Education Service.”

In his new post, Wilson will oversee the administration of VA's educational programs for veterans, servicemembers, and their dependents.  These programs provide education opportunities for nearly 500,000 participants pursuing higher education each year.

Wilson’s VA career began at the regional office in Lincoln, Neb., in 1989.  Since then he has served in the New Orleans Regional Office; as the assistant director of the Washington Regional Office; and, most recently, as the director of the Appeals Management Center in Washington, DC.

After serving eight years in the Navy, Wilson used his own VA education benefits to earn bachelor degrees in Russian and international affairs from the University of Nebraska.
