Education and Outreach

Raising America’s Ocean and Environmental Literacy

Ocean Explorer WebsiteOER education activities are intended to highlight the value of a vigorous ocean exploration discovery and research program in enhancing awareness, understanding, and stewardship of the intricate ocean system and its importance to life on Earth. OER is committed to engaging the broadest possible audiences in near-real time ocean exploration and research to raise America’s environmental literacy and its understanding of the diversity and interconnectedness of habitats and life on the planet.

OER serves the education community by providing opportunities for teachers and other educators to learn more about NOAA ocean exploration and research and how they can use the mathematics, science, and technology content associated with exploring the ocean in their classrooms.

OER serves the public by sharing activities with the public through the media, including television, documentary films, newspapers, magazines, the Worldwide Web, and other outreach efforts. OER encourages the public to reflect, through formal and informal OER education efforts, on the fundamental human urge to explore.
