Alternate Title Study of a Multi-Modal Screening Strategy for the Early Detection of Lung Cancer in Current or Former Smokers
Trial Description Screening may help doctors find lung cancer sooner, when it may be easier to treat. This clinical trial is studying screening methods to see how well they find lung cancer early in current or former smokers. Eligibility criteria include the following:
Final eligibility for a clinical trial is determined by the health professionals conducting the trial. Participants will have their lung function tested at the beginning of the study. They will also undergo a spiral CT scan at the beginning of the study and at 1 and 2 years. Some participants will undergo an additional CT scan at 3 months. Some participants will also undergo bronchoscopy and bronchial biopsies. Participants will undergo blood sample collection periodically for laboratory studies at the beginning of the study and at least once a year for 2 years. Participants will fill out questionnaires on smoking, work exposure, family history, medical information, quality of life, and anxiety at the beginning of the study and every 6 months for up to 2 years.
