Geographic Information SystemsGeographic Information Systems or GIS are computer systems, software and data used to analyze and display spatial or location data about surface features. One of the strengths of GIS is the capability to overlay or compare multiple feature layers. A user can then analyze the relationship between the layers. Data, reports and maps produced through GIS are used by managers and resource specialists to make decisions about land management activities on National Forests. Our area of responsibility covers Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming. The National Forests of the Rocky Mountain Region maintain and utilize GIS data for various features on the ground. Some of these datasets are made available for download through this page. The availability of some data is limited by 3rd party copyright. The selected datasets presented here are dervied from the US Forest Service's Automated Lands Project (ALP) and the Infrastructure Database (Infra) data systems and processed using ArcMap and Google Earth Pro. The US Forest Service makes no expressed or implied warranty, including warranty of merchantability and fitness, with respect to the character, function, or capabilities of data or programs and their appropriateness for any user's purposes.
