Passes & Permits

Photo of a person riding horseback though a meadow. Most national forests and grasslands are open, free of charge, for your use and enjoyment. Fees may be charged and permits required for some activities and locations. Business permittees, such as campground concessionaires and outfitter guides, may provide services to public land users.

Interagency Passes

Formerly known as Golden passports, there is a new Interagency Pass that replaces the current Golden passes. While current Golden passes will be honored until their expiration date, new passes will be issued as of January 1, 2007. These passes can provide either free entrance or a discount for certain recreation fees. There are three types of passes available:
  • Interagency Annual Pass—for the
    general public, $80
  • Interagency Senior Pass—for senior
citizens age 62 and older, $10
  • Interagency Access Pass—for
    permanently
    disabled individuals, FREE

Since the Pike & San Isabel National Forests and Cimarron & Comanche National Grasslands does not have a general entrance fee, no substantial changes will occur here. The forest continues to honor Golden Age and Golden Access Passports at all fee campgrounds.
