District Ranger Mary Kay Vandiver informs the public that the Smith River National Recreation will start to burn piles in the Gasquet Mobile Home Park Community Protection Project. Pile burning will occur within a 23 acre shaded fuelbreak located south of Highway 199, immediately south of the Gasquet Mobile Home Park.

"We realize there may be noticeable smoke around the project area for several days after ignition. We are planning to complete this burning project in a timely fashion to minimize these smoke impacts to the surrounding community." said Vandiver. "With the completion of this project, we would have burned 190 acres shaded fuelbreaks around the community of Gasquet," continued Vandiver.

For more information please contact the Smith River National Recreation Area at 707-457-3131.
