Order Number 10-08-14 (Union Zaar Mine Closure Area)

SIX RIVERS NATIONAL FOREST
FOREST ORDER NO. 10-08-14
Union Zaar Mine Closure Area

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(b), and to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the Union Zaar Mine Closure Area of the Six Rivers National Forest. This Order is effective from September 12, 2008 through September 11, 2011.

  1. Going into or being upon National Forest System lands within the Union Zaar Mine Closure Area. The Union Zaar Mine Closure Area consists of the following 2 separate areas, as described below and shown on Exhibit A (pdf 877kb).
    1. Closure Area No. 1. The boundary of Closure Area No. 1 begins at the northwest corner of Section 35, Township 17 North, Range 11 West, Humboldt and Willamette Meridian, then continues south along the section line to its intersection with Del Norte County Road No. 305, then continues east along the roadside to the Six Rivers National Forest boundary, then continues northeast along the National Forest boundary to its intersection with Del Norte County Road No. 305 as it re-enters the Six Rivers National Forest, then continues northeast along Del Norte County Road No. 305 for ΒΌ mile, then continues north to the northern boundary of Section 35, then continues west along the section boundary back to the starting point.
    2. Closure Area No. 2. The boundary of Closure Area No. 2 begins at the intersection of Forest Road No. 17N49 and the southern boundary of Section 35, Township 17 North, Range 11 West, Humboldt and Willamette Meridian, then continues north to its intersection with Del Norte County Road No. 305, then continues west along the roadside to its intersection with the Six Rivers National Forest Boundary, then continues east and then south along the Forest boundary to its intersection with Forest Road No. 17N49, then continues southeast along Forest Road No. 17N49 to the starting point.

  2. Being on any National Forest System road within the Union Zaar Mine Closure Area.

  3. Being on any National Forest System trail within the Union Zaar Mine Closure Area.

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this order:

  1. Persons with a permit from the Forest Service specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
  2. Contractors engaged in operations authorized by the Forest Service within the Union Zaar Mine Closure Area.

These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A.

A violation of this prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 USC 551 and 18 USC 3559, 3571, and 3581.
