Forest Closure Orders

Gap Fire Area Closure - Aircraft have treated 1,531 acres of National Forest land to help protect the denuded hillsides in the area burned by the Gap Fire during the upcoming rainy season. The general treatment area, including West Camino Cielo Road west of Windermere Ranch and east of Broadcast Peak, is closed to public entry. The closure does not affect private property.

Monterey Ranger District Fire Closure - Due to safety hazards resulting from the Basin, Indians and Chalk Fires, most of the Monterey Ranger District, including the entire Ventana Wilderness, will remain closed to public entry through the winter. Hazards include falling trees and limbs, rockslides, and the potential for mudslides and flash flooding.

Winter Road & Trail Closures - Certain roads in Los Padres National Forest are subject to weather-related closures. Most of the roads are closed just prior to predicted storms and are reopened once the road surface dries out.

A very limited number of roads are closed for the winter season. For more information contact the appropriate ranger district office.
