Dynamic Management Areas - Regulation of vessels (i.e., temporary re-routing, speed restrictions, delayed entry) in areas where right whales are detected but where no specific measures are in place.

Depleted - MMPA defines depleted as any case in which the Secretary of Commerce or a state determines that a species or stock is below its optimum sustainable population, or a case in which the species or stock is listed as endangered or threatened under the ESA.

Turtle Excluder Device (TED) - A TED is a grid of bars fitted into the neck of a shrimp trawl. Small animals, such as shrimp, pass through the bars and are caught in the bag end of the trawl. When larger animals, such as marine turtles and sharks, enter the trawl they strike the grid bars and are ejected through an opening at the top or bottom of the net.

Purse Seine - a large fishing net made to hang vertically in the water by weights at the lower edge and floats at the top that is drawn into the shape of a bag to enclose the catch.
